student, my $200 2MP 3x optical zoom point and click fuji digital is doing a decent job. with the exception of night time shots, it is almost idiot proof in the automatic setting, but unfortunately the manual settings are not terribly useful because the camera still compensates and half of the time effectively ruins the shot that you had planned. one of these days though, i will get a high end digital camera with attachable lenses and filters, and excellent manual adjustability. just probably not within this decade...
